The Gindre Group, two centuries of expertise and values.

our history

Two centuries  of industrial know-how

Established since 1823 in Pont-de-Chéruy (France), we are passionate about transforming non-ferrous metals. Through the industrial revolution and up to the advent of electricity, a new world opened up, revealing copper as the indispensable metal for the electrical industry. Since the middle of the 20th century, we have focused our activities on eco-responsible copper processing. Today, vertically integrated and with an international presence, from smelting and distribution to the manufacture of semi-finished products and components, we are proud to meet the energy challenges of tomorrow.

From craft to industry: 200 years of transformation

1823

Gold and silver origin

Charles Marie Duchavany founds a company producing gold and silver threads for Lyonnaise passementerie. His expertise contributed to the growth of local textile craftsmanship.

1833

Birth of Gindre Duchavany

With the advent of the industrial age and the development of electricity, Charles Marie Duchavany joined forces with Johannès Gindre to create Gindre Duchavany, a supplier of copper wire and rods. The company quickly established itself as a key player in the industrial revolution.

Since 1985

International network expansion

Creation of Gindre Distribution in France, marking the start of the group's international expansion. Subsidiaries followed in the United States, England and Spain, to offer local service to customers.

Since 1986

Component development

The explosion of the electrical market and our customers' need to concentrate on their core business led us to offer a new service: finished parts ready for use. Gindre launches Gindre Composants in France in 1986. The business expands internationally with sites in India and Slovakia, strengthening the Group's offering.

2000

Acquisition in Germany

Gindre acquires Kupferrheydt GmbH, specialized in the production of Maxiflex round wire and insulated flexible bars. This acquisition expands the Group's range of semi-finished products.

2007

Gindre and Montanwerke-Brixlegg

Gindre joins forces with Montanwerke-Brixlegg, manufacturer of copper billets, to optimize raw materials management. This partnership strengthens competitiveness across the entire value chain.

2012

Integration into the UMCOR Group

In April 2012, Gindre and Montanwerke-Brixlegg joined the UMCOR holding company, consolidating their global market positions. This integration opens up new development prospects.

2014

Diversification: earthing and lightning protection

The acquisition of Earthmet Ltd in the UK enables Gindre to diversify into earthing and lightning protection products. This new activity completes its copper offering.

2018

IATF 16949 certification

To meet the needs of the electric mobility market, Gindre Composants adapts its processes and obtains IATF 16949 certification. This standard testifies to production quality for the global automotive industry.

 mastering the value chain

Vertical
integration

The vertical integration of copper manufacturing processes has been a cornerstone of Gindre's strategy for many years. By first diversifying downstream through components and then upstream by integrating recycling technologies in foundries, we now control the entire value chain. Our mastery of these skills provides our clients with simplicity, security, and tailored solutions to meet their needs.
